Beer Cannon Montage

This is probably the best use I've ever seen for Beast Light...

Wrist Bands

According to the Marcus Amphitheater website...

"A limited number of free general admission lawn and/or bench seats will be available the day of the show, for some of the shows"

Do they bother mentioning what "some of the shows" are? Of course not.

So I made a few phone calls, and the winners are:
  • July 1 @ 7:30 PM - Paul Simon
  • July 2 @ 7:00 PM - Nine Inch Nails
  • July 6 @ 5:00 PM - String Cheese Incident
  • July 7 @ 8:00 PM - Steely Dan and Michael McDonald
  • July 9 @ 7:30 PM - Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows
No PJ & Tom Petty? Tear.

3 Days...

...until I head to WI for a long 4th of July weekend - quite looking forward to that.

You also only have 3 days to cast 25 votes for Joe & Torii to make the 2006 All Star Game...

Clearly, I am not responsible for Joe moving into 5th place among AL catchers - but keep it up! Renew your IP address! Delete your cookies! Outsmart that vote counter on MLB.com...

Jackpot!

I just learned that the phrase "sell like hotcakes" has nothing to do with the tasty McDonald's breakfast item...

Courtesy of minnesotajobs.com: "In the early 1800's, hotcakes were the popular fast food at carnivals and country fairs. Anyone who set up a hot cake was sure to make a killing."

I was working at McDonald's circa 1997 when they switched to frozen hotcakes - they used to employ quite a contraption to funnel & dispense a uniform amount of batter on the grill.

PS: this is post #777, hence the title.

Jury Duty

I've always been curious what it would be like to be on a jury, and finally got my chance - except I don't live in San Joaquin County anymore!

You'd think they could have spared me the obligatory "I moved" reply, since the summons was sent to my Minneapolis address...

Hennepin Country, are you listening?

Apartment Depot

When one does not live in a house, one has little reason to venture into Home Depot. I just needed some fatty screws to finish putting my desk back together, but ended up spending 45 minutes wandering around remembering how much I love that place - the smell of lumber, the 92 foot ceilings, the funk of testosterone...

I'm pretty excited about this "ultimate lounge chair" I found, kind of a hybrid between an outdoor chaise lounge and a Craftmatic Adjustable Bed. I got a little sun this afternoon while listening to the Twins sweep the Cubs, anyone want to check out the Dodgers game on Tuesday night? Cheap Seats are on me...

  • Some "downtowner" you are...the fireworks were for the grand opening of the new Guthrie. They had an open house all day in which you could have gone and checked it out instead of wasting away in your Craftmatic.

  • "The funk of testosterone?" Eew.

I was wondering about the fireworks myself. I even googled it, but couldn't find a thing. So thanks Brad's friend Jeff. Mystery solved.

Here We Go Again

He referred to me as "the man," so the least I can do is throw up an alert that Michael's blog is back and better than ever - including pictures from his fancy new camera and del.icio.us links - enjoy!

Quotable Yogi

I've probably seen the Yogi Berra Aflac commerical 92 times while watching Twins games, but it wasn't until today that I realized how "quotable" Yogi is - it makes so much more sense now! (But the duck is still annoying.)

There's a whole Wikipedia article dedicated to Yogiisms, which include:

"It ain't over till it's over." and "It's like déjà vu all over again."

C'mon Torii

So what if you came into the game 0 for 20 w/12 strikeouts against Roger Clemens?

He's an old man now - quit swinging at every piece of crap he throws at you...

Soccer's Knuckleball

Would you pay $240 for a replica of one of the Adidas World Cup ball?

  • I don't know where they got that price from. Every place I've seen it has it at a very affordable $130.

adidas

In times of uncertainty such as these, I turn to Wikipedia for answers...

The "Adidas" name is simply a combination of the founder's nickname (Adi) and the first three letters of his last name (Dassler).

There is a false assumption that ADIDAS means "All Day I Dream About Sports (or Soccer)"

mmm, Beer. And Coffee.

Matt blogged about a Washington Post article that suggests drinking coffee reduces the risk of liver damage for alcoholics - not sure if I'm flattered or embarassed that he associated me with that combination. Maybe he just wanted his blog's name to show up in the Technorati box...

Why are we all of a sudden linking to 6 month old news?

  • So, the only way I could see your three newest posts is through Bloglines and by going to your June 2006 archives. What up? Get on that techie.

  • Good eye on finding that article was written in 2005. NPR just mentioned that story the other day, so I did a search on it. Sounds like they are lagging on "late and breaking" news.

Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal!

Per Martha's comment below, I did enjoy the 2nd half of Ghana beating the Czech Republic before witnessing the red-carded debacle that was Saturday's USA/Italy match. Although I'm curious if World Cup commentary will ever appear on her blog?

I did feel a tiny bit sorry for Italy's Cristian Zaccardo, who accidentally scored the game-tying goal on his own team. Years ago, I definitely headed a ball or two backwards into our team's net playing indoor soccer... oops.

If only I had a poem... or a limerick... that might start my creative juices flowing... but who do I know that would write me a poem like they promised??... hmmmmmmmmmm

Vote Joe

Joe Mauer is leading all professional baseball players with a .380 batting average, but hasn't managed to crack the top 5 catchers in fan balloting.

1. Jason Varitek, Red Sox 630,657
2. Ivan Rodriguez, Tigers 595,132
3. Jorge Posada, Yankees 489,480
4. A.J. Pierzynski, White Sox 370,020
5. Victor Martinez, Indians 324,575

You can vote 25 times - ready? Set... GO!

  • What? No mention of World Cup on your blog? Aren't you the guy who successfully convinced me that Adidas (the popular athletic brand) was really an acronym for "All Day I Dream About Soccer"?? Yeah. You WERE that guy, and I was the girl who completely believed that up until about a week ago... seriously. But who are you now? A guy who doesn't watch World Cup? Or a guy who watches, but has nothing to blog about it?..

By Blogger Martha, at 6/18/2006 10:35 PM

  • what do you mean...all day i dream about soccer..is not what ADIDAS means???!@#?@

    I totally believed that!

I am sure I even told my students that is what it meant!

Love ya if yu stop lying to me! Mom

Auto Check In @ Southwest

Although I try to spend as much time as possible in front of the computer, I never seem to be there 24 hours before a flight on Southwest - when the race to get an "A" boarding pass starts.

Who knew there were free websites that log on to southwest.com and check in for you? The folks at Southwest do, and they are suing.

Sounds like the plethora of e-snipers that steal eBay auctions at the last second...

Dust Bunnies

I'm not sure why, but I decided to borrow Jeff's ladder and clean the layers of dust off the ductwork in my apartment tonight. It's provided a plethora of sneezes, and some unique perspectives on my place. The smell is oddly reminiscent of the basement at Grandma & Grandpa Johnson's old house on Main street.

The Twins finally won! Thanks to Laura for cheering hard.

V-I-C-O-D-I-N

Since Matt & Laura both recently wrote spelling-related posts, I decided to copy them.

I got 20 in the doggie bag from this morning's procedure, but it doesn't feel like I'm going to actually need them. My stone has now become gravel, which sounds like a barrel 'o fun to pee out...
