Run, Forrest!

I've never seen so many people running through an airport as I do tonight in Concourse B at CLT... the free Wi-Fi makes it easy for me to tell you about it :)

The Next YouTube?

Business 2.0 posted their 2nd annual Next Net 25 yesterday, which they describe as "the Web 2.0 wannabes most likely to break out of the pack." Interesting stuff, but I decided the information would be easier to compare if in spreadsheet format.

Since I hadn't heard of this list last year, I looked back and then decided to measure Business 2.0's predictive prowess based on the change in Alexa rank of each site they included in the 2006 list...

Definitely some clear winners (YouTube) & losers, as well as an inexplicable jump for many of the sites in mid-April? Last year's list was released on March 3rd, but the Internets isn't famous for moving slowly.

Each link below will take you to Alexa chart (like the Social Media one above) that compares the 5 sites highlighted in each of the 5 groups Business 2.0 defined...

Social Media: Digg, Last.fm, Newsvine, Tagworld, YouTube
Mashup & Filters: Bloglines, Eurekster, Simply Hired, Technorati, Trulia, Wink
The New Phone: Fonality, SIPphone, Iotum, Vivox, Skype
The Webtop: JotSpot, 30Boxes, 37Signals, Writely, Zimbra
Under The Hood: Brightcove, Jigsaw, Simplefeed, Salesforce, Six Apart

US Stastics Art

Every thirty seconds, 106,000 aluminum cans are used in the United States.

Click on the image below and scroll down to see how that many cans can depict George Seurat's 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte'

Land Dispute for Twins Ballpark

I'm a few days late breaking this news, but I just learned that Hennepin County doesn't yet own the land where the Twins stadium is supposed to be built. A group of 100+ private investors does, and the two sides can't agree on a purchase price.

Could put a kink on plans to unveil detailed designs of the new ballpark next week and break ground next month...

And The Grammy Goes To...

Everybody knows that most Grammy awards aren't handed out during the 3 hour telecast, but did you know that there's a category called Best Recording Package?

The album art for all nominees is below (click each to a larger version)

Would you have picked Tool?

  • No - because as a rule, I would NEVER pick tool.

By Blogger Laura, at 2/12/2007 9:11 AM

  • Oddly enough, I am aware of the category for "Best Recording Package". Back in Atlanta my favorite local CD shop advertised that a Grammy-nominated artist would be playing a free in-store performance.

I had never heard of Cathy Richardson before, but I figured she must be good, right?

Well, sort of. I was surprised to hear she had been nominated for her album's packagaging which, don't get me wrong, was excellent and I still can't believe that it didn't win. Visit her link above and you can watch some videos of her CD package.

It's essentially an entire car dashboard and window, complete with glove compartment and (CD) steering wheel.

Listpic - A Better Way to Craigslist

Pretend, for a moment, that you're shopping for furniture in Minneapolis on Craigslist - this is what you see:

  • LOVE it!!!

  • This is probably just my own problem ... too much drinking... not enough sleeping... whatever. The point is, I thought you might be amused to know that every time I saw the title of this blog entry, I kept thinking it said.. "lipstic" and it bothered me that it wasn't spelled correctly. This happened three separate times... I'm going back to bed...

British Musical Wunderkinder?

Another gem from VSL... "Jamie T, a sharp-witted, highly inventive singer-songwriter who raps over his own raucous acoustic-guitar playing."

You can't buy his music (yet), but the streaming audio player on his website is quite a throwback - I like 'Sheila'

I wonder when they'll get My VSL up and running?

History of Super Bowl Ads

I think my dream job might be making Interactive Graphics for the New York Times...

This one offers a look back at Super Bowl ads since 1984, but only has a few clips.

My favorites? Ameriquest's 2005 "Cat-ricide" and FedEx's 1998 "Emergency Broadcast"

The Unwanted Flavors

Does anyone actually like vanilla flavored Tootsie Rolls? I do.

They always seem to be the last ones in the office candy dish, like the yellow Starburst and banana Runts people seem to pass over...

PS: While Google Image Searching for the picture above, I came across a photo of Kitty Litter Cake on Flickr...

  • Interesting observation. I actually adore both vanilla tootsie rolls AND banana runts. I'll join the crowd & pass on the yellow Starbursts, though... ;)

  • I'm with you. Vanilla is by far the best flavored Tootsie Roll.

By Blogger Alicia, at 2/02/2007 9:21 PM

  • Don't ever make that. Mom

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2/02/2007 9:54 PM

  • I admit to purposely trying to take only the vanilla and cherry tootsie rolls out of the bulk candy bin at Cub. But, really I want just the vanilla!!!!!!!!!

YUMMY YUMMY!!! I wish I could raid your office candy dish.

  • Vanilla tootsies are one of my 7 candies. I love them!

Dick Diamond?

Michael pointed me to the Wikipedia article about LifeGem - creepy!

Apparently they only need 227 grams of "remains" to make a diamond, I wonder if I have any 1/2 pound body parts that science doesn't want me to donate to them?
