Fire in Tahoe!
A huge fire is burning near South Lake Tahoe, which started on Sunday and will hopefully be contained within the next few days. This area is near and dear to my heart, as we made several trips to the area for skiing, gambling, drinking, and bachelor party-ing.
CNN has a map of what areas are/were burning, which I used to create my first ever Google "My Map"

Come on Down!
KDWB is paying Dave Ryan too much if he can afford to drop 19 grand on Bob Barker's mic from The Price is Right...

YouTube + How To = 5min
As much as I love YouTube, I am usually dumber after spending time there.
Which is why I was so excited to read about 5min in Iconowatch...
Another clever name would have been HowTube, but that appears to be an infrequently-updated podcast about how to do stuff with your Mac.
Which leads me to something I've been thinking about for awhile... Is there any good way to learn about "sites like this" on the web? For example, I type in Google and it spits back Yahoo, Ask, MSN, etc. Or I type in Facebook and it spits back MySpace, Bebo, Xanga, etc.
Those are obvious examples, but how often do you learn about some fancy new website (hopefully from me) and wonder if there's another website that does the same/similar thing? Surely something like that exists...Labels: handy, video, youtube

MN Loves Shopping
Watching a Rocketboom video about the Mall of America taught me lots...
- Southdale was the world's first climate-controlled mall, and
- has only been open 50 years (I would have guessed malls were older)
- A mini golf course is opening at the MOA in July
- There is a red chair from Met Stadium hanging on the wall in the park (I thought only the home plate indicated what was there before the mall)
- Phase II is going to nearly double the size of the mall
- The website for Phase II includes a cheesy video and photos you have to download to actually see, but
- at least it has RSS!
