ByeSpace

I've never cared for MySpace, so I jumped at the excuse to delete my account today, and then realized that Matt was one day off. Anyways, you've got approximately 48 hours to enjoy my profile!

I hope this doesn't affect my ability to enjoy MySpaceTV...

Do You Chew Ice?

Must be a slow news day - a story about people who chew ice made the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Oddly enough, I ran into someone chewing ice as I was reading the story and wondering to myself, "who does that?" She swears by it, but I bet she doesn't have 10+ quarts of ice per day like the woman in the article...

Now that I learned all about pagophagia, I can't wait to play it in Scrabulous!

Technology, Entertainment, Design

I've seen videos from TED before, but a coworker just forwarded a great one from Malcolm Gladwell about spaghetti sauce. I followed a link from there to the Pangea Day website/project, which will be broadcast live to the world in 100 days - but you've only got two weeks to submit an original film to be considered (along with the 631 already uploaded).

Where's my HD camcorder?

Favorite Bottle Ever?

Isn't this a sweet bottle? We kept tasting Elevation wines at South Coast until we found one that tasted decent enough to buy...

Back From San Diego

I noticed a billboard at MSP airport for mspmoretolife.com, and used Jott to remind myself to check it out. I don't think I've mentioned Jott before, but it's sweet - you call a number and talk, and the transcribed text is e-mailed to you (or sent pretty much anywhere).

The first thing I noticed on the "More to Life" page was a photo contest, which currently only has 18 entries - pretty good odds! The ads aren't bad, either - are they running them in other cities to try and lure people here?

Chew On This Data

While catching up on Fimoculous in the Sheraton lobby, I came across a few interesting data visualization links...
Time for dinner!

Is the neatly organized pile of crap really simpler than the messy one?

Writers, or Web Reruns?

It was news to me that MySpaceTV is the second most popular video website behind YouTube, but no surprise when I learned that you can watch full versions of dozens of primetime TV shows on it.

103 episodes of Family Guy?
96 episodes of The Office?
67 episodes of The Simpsons?

Yes, please.

A Play on the 12 Days of Christmas

Lodi wine is all about Zinfandel, and Seven Deadly Zins is easily the most well-known wine from Lodi (thanks to incredible distribution).

It isn't one of my personal favorites, so I wasn't surprised when I heard it didn't make The 12 Zins of Lodi.

I Want to Make a T-Shirt

General Mills is #69 on Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For, and two companies from Racine made the list (#27 S.C. Johnson, #37 Johnson Financial Group)

The coolest thing is the map they created.

  • I'm sure it was just coincidence that Google Maps was used given the #1 company. Oh, and quit posting for today cuz all this replying is wasting my time.

  • First of all, what a great company to work for and in such a beautiful state! You should stay for awhile or forever! Second of all, I'm pissed that you have another friend named JP. I only know ONE Bobo! Just Pissed! -JP

Back From Snowboarding

I really wish I was at Sundance right now. Dozens of great films and incredible skiing/snowboarding? Add this to my list of things to do before I die.

  • Best time to go according to this guy...

"I go to Park City during Sundance to go snowboarding — here’s why: The film industry assholes drive the hotel prices sky high, so the average joes skip the mountain that week, and then those same film festers go drink themselves into oblivion every night leaving the slopes empty in the morning. Last year, I could count on one hand how many times I waited in line for a lift. My girlfriend’s family has a condo in the village, so I sleep for free and cook my own meals. This ski trip will be cheaper than any other I take this season. On top of that, film tickets aren’t tough to get and are reasonably priced. If you set yourself up for a low-key week, you’ll enjoy yourself. If you want to wait in line every night to sip overpriced drinks with wannabes, stay in NYC and go to Marquee."

Bundle Up!

For the past three years, I have posted about our upcoming snowboarding trip. It doesn't look like this year is going to be a warm one, not that weather.com's bar charts made it easy to see the high temperature at a glance...

FYI - some of my favorite blogs are dedicated to the critique of charts.

Serious Play, indeed

I was pretty excited when my request to attend the Art Center Design Conference was approved, and I'm even more excited now that they've added Daily Show correspondent John Oliver to the list of speakers...

  • Dude, how did you pull that off? I am immensely jealous. Do you need an official hack-photographer/lackey/personal assistant/man-bag-carrier to go along?

Google Stats, Two Years Later

In April of 2005, I flipped a switch that allowed Google to store every search I've pecked into their engine - a service now called Web History. It has come in handy on more than one occasion, since I use multiple computers and therefore can't use the history to recall what that certain web page was that I used the other day for something really cool...

It's been a couple years since I've shared my statistics, so why not now?
  • Total Google searches: 10,105
  • Searches per day: 11
  • Most likely to be Googling on: Tuesdays at 4 PM
At this rate, my 100,000th search should occur on my 50th birthday! Talk to you then.

ChaCha ChaCha, Don't Phunk With My Heart

I was all excited to tell my text-happy friends about ChaCha after reading about it in Bits, but my first experience was a bit perplexing...

Kristi and I recently saw Juno (highly recommended), so I thought I would see when it's playing again nearby. I texted 'Juno 55416' to 242242, waited five minutes... and got MYSA President Bob Poretti's home address & phone number?!?

It's too bad that the Official Text Answers Service of Sundance '08 doesn't know that Juno is a movie.
