Just Pumped
After a shameful amount of discussion, debate, begging, sighing, contemplating, pleading and pestering, Susan has caved.
Less than 3 weeks post-surgery, Susan has decided to give camping a try - I love you baby!
We're going to throw the dog in the car and see how it goes - let's hope the Yosemite Road Guide provides us with lots of non-hiking excitement.
Yosemite, here we come...

I Love this Ding!
I'm not afraid to admit that I'm a Ding! addict - we just booked 2 tickets to San Diego in early November for under $195.

More RSS Evangelism
Still not convinced you should be using an aggregator?
Craigslist syndicates all their listings, including free stuff in Minneapolis and Milwaukee (since I think that's where most of my readers are). I picked up some free shelving and a ladder before we moved out here, both of which have come in rather handy out in the garage.
Just click on the little RSS in the lower right hand corner...

Friday Night Lights
After some disappointing sushi, we paid our first visit to Banner Island Ballpark, home of the Stockton Ports (Class A affiliate of the Oakland A's, boo). It's less than 3 months old, and made SI's 25 Summer Essentials (Park It, page 7) - who knew there was anything cool to do in Stockton?
We got some sweet mesh caps and really enjoyed the new park, too bad they lost 3-2...

New ISP 4 Me
So we're switching our ISP from Comcast to Clearwire, which is fun becasue you can plug in the wireless modem anywhere they provide service (Stockton & Lodi, for example) and have a broadband connection.
At 1.5 Mbps, it's definitely a bit slower than the 3.7 Mbps we currently have, but I'm hoping that the portability and $15/month trial offer makes up for it.
Since we lose the cable modem on Monday, I quick hacked up Pictage and downloaded 983 pictures from a certain wedding we attended a few weeks back - couldn't have done it without some help from Rename-It.
Check out the photoset of Michael and I testing out how "mobile" Clearwire really is - he sent me instant messages while I drove home from work yesterday...

30 Days
Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) is back with a show on FX called 30 Days - basically explores "what it's like" to do something for a month. Topics include Minimum Wage, Islam and America, Anti-Aging, Consumerism, Homosexuality and (this week) Binge Drinking.
Susan thinks we might be desensitized to the topic after our drinking days in college, but this episode (which is both the season finale and the first one I've seen) is not living up to my expectations. Check out Morgan's blog for the scoop...

Back on the Dingwagon
It's been over 4 months since I blogged about Ding!, but Susan and I booked our first trip using the handy little tool yesterday. Total price for 2 round-trip tickets from Sacramento to LAX in October? $215.

Beer & Stogies
I'm not sure how/where I inherited a single bottle of Gordon Biersch Blonde Bock, but it's a bit of a letdown when compared to their Märzen.
While on the subject of disappointment, the Montecristo Fancytales I smoked last night while reading Harry Potter 2 couldn't hold a candle to the Chateau Fuente I linkblogged last Sunday.
Which reminds me, Gretchen was telling me about this place in Lodi she wants to check out...
Cigars + Beer + Wine + WiFi = Stogie's
If it's good enough for Eddie Guardado, it's good enough for me. I wonder if Susan will join us?
PS: I started wondering about the origin of the word "stogies"
In Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the early 1800s, wagon masters rolled and sold cheap, smelly cigars for the pioneers going West. The cigars were compared to the spokes on the Conestoga wagons, hence stogies.

I'm just curious if the ebay listing made any mention of him wearing gloves while "picking through" [gag] all those marshmallows. If not, I would be too worried about what else he was picking just before digging into the Lucky Charms.

Okay scratch that.....since you kindly provided the link, I went ahead and read the listing. Looks like this guy thought of everything.

Lodi, home to Al Qaeda and a Poker Genius
A set of 4's is a decent poker hand, so for my 444th post I'd like to celebrate Lodi's own Aaron Kanter, who made the final table at the 2005 World Series of Poker.

He has already beaten 5,610 other players, and is chasing a $7.5 million dollar pot (with $1 million already guaranteed just for making the final table).
Sort of puts those $5 buy-in games I usually play in perspective...
UPDATE: Aaron came in 4th, worth a cool $2 million

Why oh why did you spend $10 of your hard earned money to mail me the old & busted Kenwood deck from your (my old) car?

It definitely brought a smile to my face, but I figured that sharing it with the world might help squeeze a bit more bang out of your bucks...

Everything's A Sport
Just had lunch at Applebees (the Irresist-A-Bowls looked pricey & disappointing), and watched some dude become the 2005 National Heavyweight Arm Wrestling Champion.
Maybe the IOC could slide this "sport" in the 2012 games in lieu of baseball & softball...

Susan and Nurse Jan have been hanging around the house in recovery mode, we finally unwrapped her knee yesterday morning. We've been through about 75 pounds of ice and 22 Vicodin, but things are going pretty well so far...

48-38
It's worth noting that the Twins hit the All Star break with the same record that Boston had last year, and we all know how that turned out. Maybe winning the Central Division isn't all it's cracked up to be?
But just in case Gardy reads my blog, it should be noted that this isn't an invitation to slack off. The BoSox finished the season 50-26, so we've got our work cut out for us.
In the meantime, the home run derby starts in a half hour - I better run home.

Stupid CRV
After separating our cans, bottles and glass recyclables for nearly a year, I dragged them all down to the local redemption center and cashed out - for a whopping $12.45.
Pretty sure we're done with that, too bad we can't also be done paying the CRV...

Dog Tags
Lots of information is available about movies - aforementioned MediaMan downloads everything from when the film came out in theatres to Amazon.com reviews. IMDB is an incredible resource, but I haven't yet found anything that will tell me if there are the sounds of dog barking in the background at any point during the movie.
We're watching The Pianist right now, and Pekoe has twice almost busted his skull by jumping up from his spot under the table when he heard dogs barking. If movies were tagged as having dog barking in them, we could strap a hand towel to his head or something to pad the impact...
PS - I'm slightly ashamed that I fell asleep while watching Team America: World Police yesterday, damn that's a high-larious movie.

Organize yer DVDs
I've been using MediaMan for a couple weeks now, and I'm lovin' it. It's great on the Tablet and allows us to store all our DVDs in binders so the living room isn't cluttered by a rack of DVD cases.
As of this morning, there are 93 titles in our collection.

Susan's New ACL
We're back at home after Susan had her ACL replaced this morning. It's been over 4 months since she tore it skiing in Tahoe, and today we start a new road to recovery. She is doing really well so far and currently taking a little nap. 3 more hours before we get more Vicodon, so I'm going to try and get some work done.
In the meantime, check out my very first photoset on Flickr...

Racine Blogs Update
Thanks to Liz for pointing out that the Journal Times is officially on board the RSS bandwagon.
My mom also hooked me up with Blogenlust, a political weblog authored by a childhood friend of mine. Too bad he recently ditched San Francisco in favor of New York, it's been a long time since I've talked to him...

Fireworks @ Lodi Lake
I remembered the tripod and snapped close to 150 pictures of last night's Ooh Aah fireworks at Lodi Lake, approximately 10 of which didn't suck.

You may have noticed that these images are hosted on Flickr, which I just started using last week. Not sure if I'll stick with putting photos up there or use Blogger Images or just keep leeching off the Bob Insurance server - as if you care anyways.

Say What?
Instead of putting away laundry or sleeping, I find myself in the kitchen chowing down leftover bean dip because I go on a 24 hour clear liquid diet tomorrow at noon. As if there isn't already enough wrong with me, I believe that I recently ruptured my tympanic membrane.
Good thing Susan isn't having ACL surgery on Friday and can take care of me. Oh wait.

I think I got too aggressive with a Q Tip earlier this week, so it may not have been a rupture after all. The problem seems to have taken care of itself, so hopefully I didn't do any serious damage...

I guess I just feel like those are for people who take lots of pills regularly, and I feel like I'm too young for that.
I have a multivitamin, iron supplement and acne prescription in the sorter...

Happy Saturday
I'm writing on the Tablet in bed this morning, too much work to get up and start the day just yet. Susan is sleeping next to me - I wish I had a camera nearby because her face is cute all smushed against the pillow.
I can't believe it's already Saturday - one would think the first week back to work after a long vacation would just drag on. We filled our evenings with home cookin' (including a fire on the stove), 2 trips to the gym, and a long walk with Pekoe to try McDonalds Strawberry Cheesecake McFlurry (thumbs down).
We ditched Blockbuster Online in favor of Netflix last week - I'm excited for the RSS support, but will admittedly miss the 2 free in-store rentals a month. Isn't there some feature that allows me to stalk other Netflixers Queues?
I watched Hitch on Wednesday night (Susan slept as she watched in MN), it had a few moments but I didn't exactly weep when I put it back in the mail. You know, instead of me telling you what movies we get, just subscribe to our Rental History RSS feed!
