Pride of Minnesota

I just saw some people at the Gopher game with "Marching Band" hats... Love it.

I'm Starting Cotchery

Lots of feedback on my FF question, but my gut says to go against Indy's defense on the road vs. Bears at home. Maybe y'all can say I told you so...

  • Yeeaaahh. I like Cotchery. Yeeeahh. Unfortunately I still lost because of Maroney going off against the Bengals. I love him, but I hate him.

Fantasy Football Quandary

First of all, who knew quandry had the second 'a' in it?

Second, who should I start?

Darrell Jackson, the Seahawks' prolific WR playing in Chicago against their prolific defense?

or Jerricho Cotchery, a productive Jets' wideout playing at home against Indy?

  • I'm starting Jerricho Cotchery, of course I don't have Darrell Jackson and I'm also 0-3 but still, I'd like to think of myself as a fantasy football wonk.

  • I, too have Cotchery, but I'm benching him this week. Of course, I also have Deion Branch and Galloway, so...

  • Cotchery. Indy is going to get a big lead resulting in NY having to pass to catch up. I see Cotchery getting most of his points in the 2nd half, so don't go jumping of any bridges if you don't have any points come halftime.

Wild!

An 8-1 victory over the Royals clinches a playoff berth for my beloved Twins - guess I can go out and get that new hat I've been wanting???

Fall* Baseball

...another 8th inning rally puts the Twins over the Red Sox, and they've erased what was once a 12 1/2 game Detroit lead in the AL Central. Too bad the Tigers are currently beating the White Sox, and would regain the division lead with a win - never thought I'd be rooting for Chicago this late in the season...

Love Live Music

Nearly 2 years ago, Sean introduced me to The Bad Plus.

19 months ago, I incorrectly predicted they will win a Grammy.

In 16 days, Matt and I are going to see them at Ted Mann Concert Hall.

Anybody else wanna come? I'm thinking we'll open some wine at my place beforehand...

Wasting Time

8 minutes to kill before Bridge School Benefit tickets go on sale... let's see if I can squeeze in a post.

Currently listening to "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol, a free iTunes download courtesy of Reese's Puffs - probably the greatest cereal ever. Next up is SexyBack, which the DJ at Bootlegger's liked so much he played it twice last night - is there really a shortage of hip hop dance songs? Seriously.

Radio, Lyrics, Art...

I've heard more and more advertising for HD Radio lately, so I decided to check it out. My research inevitably let me to Wikipedia, where I stumbled on an interesting list. In the wake of 9/11/01, Clear Channel apparently distributed a list of "songs with questionable lyrics" that radio stations may not want to play.

This reminds me of our recent trip to the Experience Music Project in Seattle, where I learned that there was an FBI investigation into the lyrics of "Louie, Louie." So much for the innocent song we played in the Horlick pep band - I wonder if the trombone section still plays the random intro I "composed" back in my music theory days?

The coolest part of EMP was easily the DoubleTake art exhibit - which was apparently sourced entirely from Paul Allen's private collection. Let me know if this interests you, I bought the book and would be happy to loan it out.

Twins Update

The Twins love their 2 out rallies and the the bottom of the 8th - but what's with Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer (and others?) rubbing their noses at one another when they get on base? They finally took a lead against Oakland tonight, now let's hope that Joe pitches a bit more "Nathan-like" tonight for the save.

For those of you not keeping track, the Twins lead the AL Wild Card race by 2 games and trail Detroit for the division lead by a mere 1 1/2. With only 18 games and 19 days remaining in the season, it's definitely on like Donkey Kong!

Fall Has Fallen

Nick came down to visit me on Saturday, we spent the afternoon riding our bikes all over south Minneapolis. Highlights included chasing an old-school coal burning locomotive, our first ever Whole Foods experience, and exploring the site of the new Twins stadium...

We took pictures (of course), but I spent most of yesterday turning my computer into a makeshift TiVo - which means Picasa needs to be reinstalled. It successfully recorded The Simpsons and Family Guy last night, but has since died - leaving me high and dry for the DCI Finals on ESPN2 that start in 20 minutes :(

Google Images Gets Social

Isn't Google nice? Their newest tool "allows you to label random images to help improve the quality of Google's image search results." Lucky us!

Truth be told, it's kind of fun/addicting - unless you get a shitty partner and they suck at guessing good labels (you and an anonymous partner have to agree on at least one tag before moving on). And what's with the tiny pictures?

  • Hey.. Not really a comment for your blog, but more for you: We had our block party yesterday at my mom's. And in looking through old block party pictures, I came across ones from the year you and Jake (and Michelle) were there? Remember and you hid a video from me, or something? Anyway. There were pictures there from that, and one of us sitting at a picnic table together - both wearing white polo shirts - we totally look related!! I guess I forgot about that! We were pretty cute, though. Anyway. Just thought you'd want to know you are forever a piece of Augusta Street block party history! Hope to see you sometime soon... Martha

Imprapostrophe

It really bother's me when word's improperly include an apostrophe, and it seems to be happening more and more lately. Kristi and I were looking for a non-chain sandwich place in Moses Lake this weekend, when a friendly Starbuck's barista recommended TODS:

This flagrant improper apostrophe (imprapostrophe) is especially horrendous since it was used to create a misleading acronym. There was no Tod in sight, and the sandwiche's and wrap's on their menu (while tasty) were far from original...

More pictures coming soon, I promise!

11 Days...

...since my last post, that might be the longest "break" I've ever taken - even though this was (mostly) unintentional. I was in Chicago last weekend and have extended my long weekend in Seattle one more day since NWA loves to oversell planes. Last week was quite busy as well...

played a scramble on Monday,
had a meeting for the AKPsi Alumni Chapter on Tuesday,
celebrated Kimberly's birthday on Wednesday,
before flying to Seattle on Thursday.

Kristi and I had an amazing weekend in Seattle, Yakima Wine Country and Gorge Amphitheater - lots of pics on her camera that will be Flickr'd (and geotagged) soon, no doubt! I'm currently using the free Wi-Fi at the Seattle Public Library, but need to sign off and enjoy my bonus day in the city!
