On Monday, the Twins and Joe Nathan signed a 4 year, $47 million dollar contract - which makes him the second highest paid closer in baseball. Since that translates to roughly $275,000 every time he trots onto the field, I started to wonder if that was it worth it?
I played with some data, and decided that the answer is yes. #36 has converted 92% (160 of 174) of save opportunities over the past four years, which is best in baseball according to my analysis (see both tabs in spreadsheet).
Many years ago, I decided to call 1-800-EASTER-BUNNY to see who answered. If I remember correctly (which isn't usually the case), the number was for Prudential Financial Group. As of tonight, I just get a busy signal :(
Anyways, I just wanted to tell Nick that we're going to miss him tomorrow...
Before this year's NCAA tournament, Joe Lunardi (the inventor of Bracketology) went so far as to predict the score of every game. He went 13-3 tonight (as did I), and was surprisingly accurate with more than a few of his picks:
Marquette over Kentucky, 77-62 (actually 74-66)
Xavier over Georgia, 75-57 (actually 73-61)
Michigan State over Temple, 71-65 (actually 72-61)
Stanford over Cornell, 73-54 (actually 77-53)
Texas A&M over BYU, 71-63 (actually 67-62)
Wisconsin over Cal State-Fullerton, 67-55 (actually 71-56)
To be fair, he was way off on several others. But I'm encouraged, since he and I have the same champion, Final Four and seven of the Elite Eight...
I really want an iPhone, but having a Nokia Morph someday might be pretty cool. Check out the video (46 MB, complete with Zero 7-esque soundtrack) for the full effect.
I was signature 232,346 - Guinness needs to reach one million in the next three days in order to present Proposition 317 to Congress. Doesn't using the pen look fun?
I've mentioned MySpace TV before, and today's VSL tipped me off to Fancast (better interface, less episodes). Just watched my first ever episode of Arrested Development - pretty good! But we're about to start the third season of Entourage, so (George) Michael Cera is gonna have to wait.
Well, I hope its me still posting in 6 months. But, i've got a short attention span so . . . . who knows. Question, are you posting form your cell phone???
Every time I get one of these inter-company envelopes, my immediate reaction is that someone sent me a MacBook Air, and I'm always disappointed with the actual contents...
Steve Jobs says that Apple "do[es] no market research" - which doesn't surprise me one bit. I wonder what someone like me would do at a company like Apple? Thanks to MRJ for pointing me to Daring Fireball for pointing me to this interview.
And that's why I'm not a Packer fan. Maybe Fergie, Longwell, and Sharper can convince him to come here. Losing the Superbowl is a much higher expectation than anything we currently have.
My WorldPerks card has been upgraded to Visa Signature, which apparently means that I have no pre-set spending limit. We've been watching quite a bit of Entourage lately, so I'm thinking about running out to get myself a Maserati - maybe when the snow stops falling?
I also got access to Zagat Survey restaurant ratings, which reminded me that I've eaten at some of the lowest-rated food in Minneapolis (Dakota, B.A.N.K., Cue). Fortunately, we're going to 112 Eatery (the highest-rated) next weekend!
