This one time...
I've got lots of band camp stories, from tame stuff like how warm root beer is the best fuel for a late-night belching contest to more risque like, um... I can't remember.
For some reason, I was reminded that Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of the intensive rehearsal season for my high school marching band. I suppose it's technically the marching band for 8th-12th grade students in the Racine Unified School District, not just Horlick...
At any rate, I was saddened to learn that I won't be able to see them perform while I'm back home in June - perhaps I will have to show up at a rehearsal?!?
If I remember correctly, the band will march past the grave of Matt LaBelle after the parade on Monday. Mr. Johnson would tell us a little about his life and unfortunate death at a very young age - I hope Rex still does that. Life goes by way too quickly most of the time, and we need some excuses to stop and think about life, death and everything in between.
