Jackpot!
I just learned that the phrase "sell like hotcakes" has nothing to do with the tasty McDonald's breakfast item...

Courtesy of minnesotajobs.com: "In the early 1800's, hotcakes were the popular fast food at carnivals and country fairs. Anyone who set up a hot cake was sure to make a killing."
I was working at McDonald's circa 1997 when they switched to frozen hotcakes - they used to employ quite a contraption to funnel & dispense a uniform amount of batter on the grill.
