• Are you talking about the "Become an M&M" where you design a Mr Potato Head-esque M&M to look like a person? Or the customizable M&M's that you can order?
  
  M&M's did ask their consumers what color to add several years ago, but they had to choose from a list instead of creating their own.

New Bad Plus Album

I was catching up on VSL's and thrilled to see that The Bad Plus is dropping a new album on May 8th. Or was I thrilled because I knew about something cool before VSL told me about it?



Either way, I was listening to "Physical Cities" and "Thriftstore Jewlery" on their MySpace page and reading comments when I came across this one...

"Love it, Love it... You guys need to come to CINCINNATI! Why? because we have:1 a fountain in the middle of town! 2 World's first pro baseball team 3 a bar called the poison room 4 no jazz that I know of 5 lots of german people! recipe for sucess, that is."

Michael, why didn't you tell me about the fountain?!? I would have, like, visited you twice already...

Smith Point at Footstock?

Smith Point is a great band from San Francisco that you've never heard of - I only know they exist because the lead singer is dating Kristi's ex-roommate's friend.

Bay to Breakers is a crazy 12K across the San Francisco peninsula, which some people like to do naked & body painted.

After the "race" is Footstock, and Smith Point has a chance to be this year's opening act! If you vote for them online before April 23rd and leave a comment here, I'll get you a copy of their album so you can hear the awesomeness for yourself...

Ketchup Art, Squared

The Heinz Ketchup Creativity Contest allows students in 1st through 12th grade to design a ketchup packet, with the chance that it will be printed on millions of tiny packets and filled with sweet, tomatoey goodness.

For whatever reason, 11 of the 12 winners were from either Miami, FL or New York - except this gem by Trevon Sladek, a 3rd grader from Orono Intermediate in Long Lake, MN.



I think my Mom should have her students do this while she is at home recovering from knee surgery for the next few weeks :(

You never know, some crazy artist might use one a few of those ketchup packets as paint?



Update: Heinz is all over the consumer-generated bandwagon - TopThisTV.com launched today.

• No, but I'm glad you asked since I've wondered about those commercials. They are done by a 55 year old woman from Isreal, and are apparently "one continuous shot without any visual edits or special effects" (via)

My Dream Mug

I've been making coffee at home in the morning quite regularly since Kristi has been staying with me, and have spent enough time using (and hand washing) travel mugs lately to have designed the perfect one in my head:

• Lid that slides (as opposed to screws) on/off
  
• No "latch" that opens/closes over the sipping hole (tends to splash & hard to clean)
  
• No handle (so 2 can easily fit in my car's cupholder)
• Bigger (taller) is better - so I can add half & half and avoid overflow/splashing

ThinkGeek has one that violates at least some of the rules, but the caffeine molecule printed on it is flippin' sweet.

Been a little quiet on the blog, probably because I've been playing with Twitter for the past few days.

What's Twitter? Well, if blogging is like writing a publicly-available journal, then "tweeting" is like randomly telling the world what you're up to (as if they care).

Think I'm crazy? John Edwards is doing it.

It's mind-numbingly simple, and my brothers are signed up too - we'll see where this goes...
