I'm probably guilty of relying on Wikipedia as my only source of "facts" more often than I should, but it's hard to argue with its ease of use and efficiency of design. Why just today, I edited the October 13th article to add new Gopher Football coach Tim Brewster to the list of birthdays...
I dragged DDR mats out to California last weekend, but Guitar Hero 2 was easily the crowd favorite (thanks to Heidi & Jeff.) It seriously makes you feel like a rock star - this video does a pretty good job of capturing the essence...
I set the high score for Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name," and have listened to the mp3 approximately 10 times since getting home on Tuesday...
Chris and I went to Twins Fest '07 this afternoon, which was more fun than I expected it to be. No autographs or photos with players, but I could have spent a half hour studying the architectural diagrams and models of the new stadium...
We also got a dugout/clubhouse/pressbox tour, saw the traveling Hall of Fame exhibit, and learned how to make balloon animals:
I've told several people about this recently, so I thought it might be good to capture here for all to know. Did you know you can send a text message to someone's phone using a regular email address?
Apple made a record-breaking billion dollar profit last quarter, fueled primarily by the 21 million iPods they sold. As a new MacBook owner, I was more interested in how laptop sales contributed...
Turns out they sold almost a million laptops in the last 3 months of the year, a tiny improvement from the 587,000 sold near the end of 2005. Looking at the revenue from those sales, it appears each laptop sold for $1700 (on average) compared to $1389 last year.
Seems like gradients are all the rage in (web) design these days, and Southwest Airlines just joined the party.
The newsletter that pointed me to the new site also mentioned "...the new home page will feature photos taken by you, our Customers. We love bringing Customers the Freedom to Fly, and we thought it would be fun to share photos of where that Freedom has taken you. Stay tuned..."
It will be interesting to see if this is just another place to upload photos of your trip, or amateurs like me will get our 15 minutes of fame on the homepage:
I just realized that I haven't written a single post since getting my MacBook, so why not start with a rant? I find it amusing that a software company would prominently display a Mac on their homepage when they don't (yet) make software for OS X...
PS - I promise not to become a "Mac rules, Windows sucks" guy just because I now own one.
I've never been to a Lacrosse game before, but it could be fun to see the Minnesota Swarm at the Xcel Center sometime. I was poking around their website and noticed a pretty nice promotion...
For $18 (including a stupid $5.55 Ticketmaster convenience charge), you get
a ticket to the game (worth $17)
a bottle of beer or soda (worth up to $6.50)
a bag of peanuts (worth $4)
a Chipotle coupon good for chips & guac (worth $2.20)
That's like $12 worth of food & drink for free!
Anyone available/interested in going to the 3/23 or 3/31 games?
Apple Computer, Inc's stock (AAPL) took a wild ride during today's keynote speech by CEO Steve Jobs. With a little help from Google Finance, I attempted to visually relate what was being said in San Francisco with how investors traded in New York.
My conclusion is that they love the iPhone, and dislike Apple TV almost as much as they hate John Mayer...
"NowNow is a service that mobile users can use to find answers to any question via mobile email. When you post a question to NowNow via email, our NowNow workers will surf the web to find the answer for you."
While NowNow is in a closed beta, Amazon also offers Askville - "a place where you can share and discuss knowledge with other people by asking and answering questions on any topic."
While gathering some of my favorite California Wine Country links to share with a friend, I stumbled across a lengthy article in the San Francisco Chronicle that's all about Lodi wineries and grape growers.
In case you're wondering why they don't want Lodi "to turn into Orange County" or why the city lacks an Asparagus & Visitor Center, read on.
I spent a few minutes tonight uploading photos from our most recent trip - to the LA area for Disneyland, New Year's Eve, the Rose Bowl Parade and watching several bowl games. Super fun time - as evidenced by a couple other picturs from Drew and Disney...
I was in charge of running to various rides and getting FastPasses for the group, thus maximizing our riding time and minimizing our waiting in hidden Disney lines time.
Drew and I did a pretty good job of acting out two characters from this Coke billboard in Disney's California Adventure.
We had fun on Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, and the coolest part was that they let you e-mail yourself the photo instead of trying to con you into spending $12 for a 5x7.
